Viva Grammar
Outlying Exhibition | Seerveld Gallery, Palos Heights, IL
This work aims to perpetuate the understanding of grammar as well as highlight quirks by offering short quips printed on garments. Exploring methods of dissemination, grammar awareness is extended (from the textbook, formal classroom setting, and school-age years) to the everyday and through the informal vehicle of the commonplace tee. Then, disregarding formality, these tee-shirts, considered to be simple casual clothing, are presented in the highbrow setting of a gallery.
Viva Grammar is a component of Outlying, our solo exhibition that was held at Seerveld Gallery, organized by Jean Carey. Outside of common design practice and common design formats, the works developed for Outlying stem from personal interests in and notions of identity and popular culture, whimsy and improvisation, as well as experimental work with language and typography.
