Garage Flyers
Collage
In the city, many people have likely walked through an alley and encountered small flyers taped or stapled to garages. These are ads promoting new roofing or garage construction. We collect these artifacts of the environment, and in our work process, we deconstruct them by tearing or cutting them down into base matter and then reassemble pieces in order to create new forms, sometimes incorporating parts from other found material. This involves layering text over images or vice versa, using typographic elements as graphic components, and creating a visual hierarchy with combined parts.
Collages are published in the second issue of Faculty, the annual publication of The Chicago Graphic Design Club. The publication aims at celebrating and highlighting Chicago's graphic design culture and voices, and centers around the theory, craft, and practice of graphic design.
